About Me

Photo

I was born on 15 August 1980 in Grottaglie, a really nice town in South Italy. After I spent my childhood in San Giorgio Jonico, a small town which is 8 km far from Grottaglie, I moved with all my family to Augusta, Sicily. Well, I have to say that Sicily is an amazing place, each centimeter squared is to be visited, there are evidences of all the Mediterranean cultures. I spent two years and half there in between a wounderful sea and archeological and natural sites. My "adventure" in Trinacria (Trinacria is the Sicily ancient name which refers to the triangular shape of the island) ended in the Summer of 1993, when I came back to San Giorgio Jonico. My life as teenager went without any particular trouble: my main concerns were my high school studies at the Liceo Scientifico "Giuseppe Moscati" in Grottaglie and my handball team (G.S. Stella Jonica) - obviously, I'm not mentioning all the concerns all the teenagers have... Anyway, Summer of 1999 was the last one of complete freedom for me because I got my degree from my high school and in September a new experience was supposed to start: the Alma Mater Studiorum - Univesity of Bologna, the most ancient university all over Europe (1088), was waiting (?) for me. It would take me forever to talk about my five years at University, so I will say only that I graduated in Physics on 18 June 2004, with a wounderful party. Unfortunately, my death as university student meant also the end of my amazing experience in Bologna: Italy is not indeed famous for investing in fundamental science and a decent future perspective is a utopia, so I decided to go to Canada for my PhD. I got my PhD in Theoretical Physics in 2008 at the Department of Applied Mathematics - University of Western Ontario and Perimeter Institute. Since September 2008 I'm Senior Research Associate at Center for Particle Theory and at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Durham, in United Kingdom.
